Say Potioe Have Misled Girls, I
New York, March It. When Po
liceman Edward M. Willi, charged
with having contributed to the moral
delinquency of a 15-year-old girl. Is
placed on trial tomorrow, others of
New York's "finest" may also be
made to bear the stigma of his dis
grace. Willi was discovered with Rosle
Hoffman, in her father's flat In West
Forty-fifth street, and was shot by
the girl's brother, the bullet Inflicting
a flesh wound in the leg. Hoffman
was paroled and the policeman will
now have to submit to a judiciary In'
qulry into his love affairs.
Relatives of the Huffman girl de
clare that Willi Is not the only police
man responsible for her misfortune
and that she Is not the only girl who
has been led from the paeth of virtue
by the lure of a blue, uniform and
brass buttons.
Willi has a good record on the po
lice force. Rosle Hoffman Is in the
hands of the Children's society. At
the preliminary hearing she refused to
testify against the policeman, and
would not admit her age until her
twin sister testified that she was not
quite 18. Willi said she told h'.m she
was 18. He denied that there had
been any Improper relations in spite
of the Incrlmnatlng circumstances un
der which he was found.
American Steel Meeting.
New York, March IS. Stockhold
ers of the American Steel foundries, a
subsidiary company of the United
States Steel corporation, will hold an
adjourned meeting tomorrow to act
on the proposed refinancing plan. If
the plan Is accepted, the capital stock
will be reduced from $37,850,000 to
$17,184,000. The move Is favored by
E. H. Gary, chairman of the United
States Steel corporation, who Is a
large holder of the preferred and
common stock. Mr. Gary Is quoted
as saying. that the corporations of
this country which are capitalised In
excess of their valuation must reduce
their capital before they can pay divi
dends. .
