Freight traffic has recuperated to
such an extent that at least three
freight trains are sent east this week,
each day, where formerly there was
seldom more than two. At :30 this
morning the second eastbound freight
pulled out of the yards for the day.
Before night nt least two more will
h3vi gone.
This reflects the real "pick-up" in
O. R. & N. business. Trainmen make
regular trips, where formerly they
!nid .much time to waste between
run.'. Naturally, all employes are as
.-Int. a over the bright prospects for
biy pay checks, as the company la over
the promising revenue.
Th usual string: of Ml eengines In
the round house hnl dwindled down
to a few scattering freight engines.
The passenger equipment is taxed,
and has been the past week.

Union printers employed In the
Washington Printing & Book Manu
facturing company, the concern print
ing the Union and Statesman, went on
strike last night and as a result both
the Union and Statesman are tied up,
relates the Walla Walla Bulletin. Al
leged violations of the local and In
ternational Typographical laws are
given as the cause for the strike or
der, which was Issued following a
meeting of the local typographical
union yesterday afternoon.
One of the principal bones of con
tention. It Is claimed, Is the action of
the company, of which P. C. Hol
land Is 'manager. In consolidating the
three mechanical departments under
one head, the printers contending that
this Is not allowed under their laws.
Following the meeting of the union
yesterday, L. F. Clarke, president of
the union, was authorized to present
the matter to P. C. Holland, No argee
ment could be reached and the men
were ordered out. Notification of
the action was Immediately sent to
President Lynch of the International
union, but no further word has been
received from him and the men will
remain out until he decides the mat
ter through a representative who Is on
his way here.
The Unlcm was unable to issue this
morning and the Statesman will not
appear this evening. It Is not known
how long the men will be out.

Will Vote on County Seat.
The petitions containing 985 signa
tures for a vote on the removal of
the county seat were filed with the
county clerk last Saturday. On Fri
day the county court went over the
list of signers, and althouRh Quite a
umber of names were stricken off
some being duplicates; others were
not registered at the last election-
there still remained enough signatures
to bring the question to a vote. On
Wednesday the county court examined
the petition for a "wet" county, and
found the requisite number of legal
signatures. Joseph Herald.
