D. SELDER
New York, March . It likely
that the Odell faction will seek to
force a line-up on the presidential
nomination of Qovernor Hughes at the
meeting of the republican state com
mittee tomorrow. It la alleged to be
their Intention to offer resolutions in
dorsing the governor aa New York's
favorite son and Instructing the con
vention to elect1 a new state commit
tee. At tomorrow's meeting of the com
mittee the call will be issued for the
state convention, to choose four dele
gates at large and four alternates to
the Chicago convention.' New York
city wll probably be selected as the
place, and Saturday, April. 11, as the
date for the convention.
Primaries will be held Tuesday,
March 31, to elect delegates to the
state convention and congressional dis
trict conventions.
State Chairman Timothy L. Wood
ruff and Secretary Hoot will be among
the "Big Four" that will head the Em
pire state delegation to the Windy
Cuy, -
There Is still some question as to
who shall make the speech nominating
Governor Hughes. Mr. Woodruff
wants to do It himself, believing that
to do so would put him in a stronger
position In the fall, when there will
be another state convention and a state
ticket to be chosen. The President Is
said .to prefer Secretary Root, who, It
is reported. Is on the tentative slate
for either temporary or permanent
chairman of the convention.
The Parsons-Woodruff forces may
fight to have the election of the state
committee postponed until the regular
state convention In the fall.
In the event of such postponement
the present dominant forces would be
at the helm at the beginning of the
presidential fight
Among republican leaders It Is the
consensus of opinion that ex-Governor
Odell will seek to put the state com
alttM m record regarding the candl
dacy of Governor Hughes. Odell of
fered a resolution last May indorsing
Governor Hughen, but it was laid on
the table. Ha may call up that reso
lution, or he may present a new one
because of changed conditions.
Organization of the campaign to
capture the primaries on March 31 Is
well under way. Odell his taken per
manent headquarters at the Fifth Ave
nue hotel and is personally directing
the battle that will be fought all over
the state.
