Jack OBrien. the Dromnt.r nt v,.
Proposed baseball league, was a vis
itor la our city yesterday, say, the
democrat. Last evening- a
was held In the office of Judge Currey
'r ln Purpose of ascertaining
whether or not Baker will become
member of the league. Mr. O'Brien
stated his proposition to those pres
ent, and all agreed that Rlter
Join the organization.
Mr. O'Brien has recently viu
Walla Walla. Pendleton and Tj.
Grande and each of these cities are
moat enthusiastic over the nrosnerm
of good, fast baseball, at a very mod
erate expense.
His proposition Is not only one that
would furnish an excellent class of
baseball, but one that will be self-
supporting each year and not the old
system of letting the expense of this
popular amusement fall tinon th
houlder of a few of our most en
thusiastic citizens.
H may seem a trifle earlv to a ma
jority of Baker fans, who do not un
derstand that some time will be re
quired In which to perfect the organ
ization of the league, and It mav not
be out of place to mention that the
other three towns are already at work
signing players and arramrina- minor
details.
Mr. OBrien will return to Baker
next Wednesday, at which time he
will bring the proposition to a close
and Baker City must make It known
as to whether or not It will become
member of the league.
WILL NOT CHANGE SCORE.

Kcrcreo . Clow Refuses to Chiudrfw
Pendleton' Claim of Game.
Further proof that Pendleton hlirh
school won the basketball game here
Saturday evening Is supplied In the
fact that the Walla Walla scorekeep
er" book also shows Pendleton had
been awarded the point that should
have given the team the game at the
close of the second half. When the
score was footed up here Saturday
the visiting score-keeper likewise neg
lected to add In the point.
But while Pendleton's claim to the
game Is complete, Referee Clow has
refused to award the same to the Pen
dleton boys. In a 'phone conversation
this morning he stated that under the
rules his term as referee expired when
the game closed, so he can take no
further action.
In an Interview with the Walla
Walla Union this morning. Clow In
dulges In numerous falsehoods con
cerning the game and also makes
om derogatory statement concern
ing Prof. Hampton and others con
nected with the Pendleton high school.
Among the local students, basketball
players and others. Clow Is regarded
as a "poor excuse" for thev
he Is not only unfair as an official
but that he Is dishonest personally
They declare he Is not fit to be asso
ciated with school athletic a he Is,
and It Is openly stated that Pendleton
will have no further athletic relations
iXh the Walla Walla high school un
til he goes out. Pendleton East Ore-

The Walla Walla Union prints the
following, which la referred to In the
Pendleton paper:
Gave Fair Deal
In a published report In a Pendle
ton paper, given ostensibly by mem
bers of the school, the statement that
Coach Clow treated the Sunshine five
unfairly and that after the second half
ended In a tie he called repeated fouls
on the Pendleton players in the hope
of winning the game for Walla Walla.
'How ridiculous the charge are.
said Mr. Clow last night, ."can be
proved by a reference to the records
of the game. In all there were but
six iouis cauea on Pendleton, as
against 18 or 20 on Walla Walla
gave the teams as fair a deal as I pos
sibly could. As for fouling Pendleton
on the play-off, that too can be proved
false by reference to the score card
