preparations are being made for the
reception of the minor league recruits
of the New York Giants, the first of
the major league teams to begin the
annual spring migration to the sunny
southland. By the last of this week
itNls expected that all of McOraw's
new men will be warming, up, prepar
atory to a strenuous try-out at biffing
the ball, base running, fielding and
battery work. The old-timers among
the Giants will not arrive at the-camping
grounds until about 10 days later.
A few weeks more will find prac
tically all of the major league players
and aspirants quartered In various
cities and towns of the south, from
Savannah to Los Angeles.
Of the 400 or more players that will
be taken to the various training camps

Hook, Philadelphia In New Orleans,
St. Louis In Shreveport, La., Washing
ton In Galveston and Boston In Little
Rock.
Resolution.
Be It'Resolved by the council of the
city of La Grande, Oregon, that a five
foot sidewalk be built on and along
the north side of Jackson avenue
from Its Intersection with North
Fourth streets, southeasterly to the
Intersection of said Jackson avenue
with North Birch street, said walk to
be built at trte expense of the abut
ting property and to be completed
within 90 days.
