loan fund of the University of Ore

an Irreducible educational loan fund
for students. The fund will be known
as the '"Booth loan fund," and will
be kept separate from the general
loan fund which at present Is distrib
uted In loans ranging; In amount from

university. Since the establishment
of the general fund five year ago,
more than 30 students have been en

who could not otherwise have done
so. . v

and girls all over Oregon, who wish
to complete their education, but who
cannot do so without assistance. It
Is believed that a loan of 'approxi

Interest, to be repaid In two years af

of a scholarship. The fund' will bi
guaranteed by 10 men against loss.
Two signatures will be required on
each note and a small amount of lift
Insurance will be taken out to insure
against loss by death.
The present loan fund amounts to
approximately f 1000.

Grand Rapids, Mich., Feb. 12.
Secretary Taft will be given a glorious
reception by the republicans of Mich
igan when he addresses the Grand
Rapids Lincoln club at its banquet to
night. A meeting of the republican
state central committee will be held
fort will be made to get the central
committee to adopt a resolution fa
voring Taft for president, although
the secretary Is a decided favorite
among Michigan republicans.
At this meeting the time and place
for holding the slate convention will
be decided on, and temporary officers
named. The state convention will
probably be held late In April or
early In May. Grand Rapids may lone
the convention because It has now no
convention hall. It Is Grand Rapids'
turn, but Detroit will probably get It
again unless Grand Rapids cttldcns
find a suitable place.
From here Secretary Taft will go to
Detroit tomorrow and an elaborate
program has been arranged for his
vnierlalnment. It Includes an escort
from .Grand Rapids, an automobile
ride to the Hotel Ponchatrain, a re
ceptlon either at the hotel or tho Ma
sonic temple or Harmonle hull, and
a luncheon to be held at 2:30 in tin.

and the program submitted to the ec
retary provides for several other
speeches besides tho secretary's.
