STARKEY
m ITEMS
Tom Loftus' horses are Improving,
but more are taking the disease which
has spread over the prairie.
We are having beautiful weather In
this part of the country. It is neither
muddy or cold.
A party at Henry T. Hill's was en
Joyed Saturday evening by Starkey's
young people.
Music, dancing and games lasted un
til i o'clock a. m. A lovely . supper
was served at midnight The music
was furnished by Mr. Hill's large
graphophone, and Richard Burnett
with the violin, and Manvll Ayrea with
his cello.
Barney Sparrow made a business
trip to Starkey Saturday.
William Kennedy, one of Starkey's
"populars," had a painful accident
few days ago. While hauling wood
something went wrong with one foot.
He failed to ascertain the cause.
Lawrence Burnett gave "Texas" the
helping hand In his affliction.
A. J. Sullivan purvutwvu iivm Mau
rice Walmer of La Grande, a pair of
baby stag-hounds for the sum of $26.
They were delivered by a party of
hunters, who were passing through
the prairie on their way for a big hunt
and lots of fun. '
School closed last Friday. MIbs
Coombs left for La Grande on board
the stage Saturday m6rnlnff.
Manvll Ayres and J. D. McMillan
took the eighth grade examination.
Both passed with a high percentage.
As J. D. has passed Into high
school, he will now finish breaking
one of his father's driving horses td
ride. We hate to see another one of
our young people leave, because the
number is rather limited, anyway.

ers are much In evidence and it Is
likely that Colorado's delegation will
be pledged to support the secretary of
war, although some opposition to the
administration has developed In the
grazing centers of the state, where
the cattlemen are opposed to the gov

and forest reserve questions.
