The new edition of the ever popu
lar musical comedy, "Ulster Urown,"
Is announced for the Steward on Feb
ruary IS, with Master Meed as "Bus
ter." This new revised and enlarged
edition might with truth be classed
as the edition de luxe, as It will' give
us new costumes, scenery, songs and
music, and we a-e promised the best
cast of players yet seen, and a big
chorus of show girls.
That it Is the intention of the de
partment of the Interior to endeavor
to open 1,145,000 acrea of land In the
Taklma reservation to settlement this
year Is the statement contained In the
annual report of the department just
Issued from the government press at
Washington, says the Taklma Republic.
whether or not the preliminary
work which has been done In the way
of classifying and valuing the lands
will be completed In time for the
opening thla year remains to be seen,
but It is the general opinion that If
the work Is not done this year the
reservation will be opened to settle
ment early next year In time to allow
of the new settlers getting in their
crops for the harvest of It OS.
Valuable Land Available.
Those who are acquainted with the
character of the lands which are to
be made available 'for the white far
mers are aware that aome of the most
valuable land In the country la con
talned within the reservation, and that
there will be a great rush for holdings
goes without saying. The lands will
be valued and the successful appli
cants will have to pay In Installments
this purchase price which goes to
the Indian owners in Addition to the
usual homestead fees.
One of the most Immediate results
of the opening of the reservation wil!
be the rapid development of the res
rvatlon towns and' with the prospect
it the early Influx of hundreds ol
hlte farmers to the reservation spec-
tilators are looking to Toppenlsh and
Wapato real estate as a good propo
sition. But 5orth Taklma, as thi
metropolis of the valley, will benefit
to a great extent also.
The wide Interest taken In' the
prospective opening of the reservation
is Indicated by the hundreds of letter
of inquiry from all parts of the coun
try which have reached the local
L'nlted States land offices during tht
past month or two. People in the
middle western states, particularly.
are anxious to have a look In when
the time for applying for holdings ar-rlvea.'-.
