nHef Check Astray.
Trovldence, R. I., Feb. 4. A five
thousand dollar check, which waa sent
to the San Francisco earthquake relief
fund, has gone astray and today the
city -treasurer has ordered payment
on It stopped until the mystery of Its
disappearance has been cleared up.
The check waa negotiated through an
Industrial trust company of New York.
Up to the present time no acknowl
edgement has come from San Fran
cisco. The cancelled paper has not
been returned. Iti view of present
conditions of affair In San Francisco
the money will probably remain In
the Providence city treasury.
