To talk over the matter of the
creation of a federal district for east
ern Oregon, a committee ' from the
Citizen's league of Baker City came
down to Pendleton today and this
afternoon . has been engaged In dis
cussing the matter with Pendleton at
torneys and business men. says the
Pendleton East Oregonlan'.
The committee constats of Samuel
Baer, Fred G. Mel Ms, James A. How
ard and B. E. Kennedy, and they rep
resent the citizens of Baker City in
this most Important matter.
The object of the conference is to
discuss the situation In regard to the
creation of the proposed federal dis
trict and to see It some definite and
satisfactory conclusion may not be
reached by which all of eastern Ore
gon will be benefitted In the matter,
Pendleton and Baker City being the
two contestants for the honor' of be'
ing headquarters tor the district, are
both ably represented in congress In
the matter and It is the object of the

City and Pendleto to arrive at an
amicable and satisfactory ' arrange
ment by which a bitter fight over the
location of the headquarters and the
selections for the dh-trlct may be pre

session of congress. Senator Fulton
has already Interlaced a bill In the
senate providing for headquarters at
Baker City and Congressman , Ellis

ing the entire suiject from a bronl
and unselfish Standpoint that the ri
val cities can BjV-jiu any bitterness
feeling and that th result, of; their
conference may be for the best In
terest of the entire eastern Oregon
