i BETTER PAPER FOR !
ILESS . . . . . .
Rightly or wrongly we unconsciously judge people
by appearances, and that is one reason why you
should use good paper for correspondence.
Good taste in the matter of stationery is indica
tive of refinement, and you cannot choose amiss
when you buy here. If snot necessary either to
pay the high prices commonly asked. We have
a nice line of box papers at 10 to 60c per box.
A good quality by the pound an economical way
to buy 25 cents. Ruled or plain linen papers
15 cents per quire. We have a very attractive
line of tablet papers from 5 cents up to 35 cents,
the latter a tablet of fine correspondence paper
with envelopes to match.
Always glad to show these things.

The Current Topic club was enter
alned last evening at tho home of
William Miller, who led the meeting.
The subject for discussion was aerial
navigation, wireless telegraphy and
telephony. After a few Introductory
remarks In which Mr. Miller called
attention to the wonderful discoveries
ind scientific accomplishments of the
past few years along lines electrical.
He then left the subject to his assist
ant. The first to respond was R. E.
Smith, who read a most Interesting
paper treating upon wlreles telegra
phy. He was followed by Mr. Os
burn. who had prepared a specially
strong paper upon aerial navigation.
Next came George Cleaver, who read
story which he claimed had been
written by hla wife. The story was
made to appear local by the Introduc
tion of local name and was listened
to with Interest. Rev. Deal then
followed with a most eloquent five'
minute address In which he brought
out some very salient feature of the
tubject. Rev. Seemann then deliver
ed a short address, In which he re
cited many facts which were pleas
ing a well as instructive, and also
interspersed through his remarks
wmt poetry which he recited In his
usual masterly manner.
Dainty refreshments were served
by Mrs. Kirk and. her daughter. Miss
Margaret. During the lunch hour

Last week the North Powder New.
announced the finding of a United
States mall pouch, cut open and lying
by the road across the river, the
bringing of It In and Identifying It as
one sent out from the -Nortn rowu
postoffice.
In an Interview with the O. R. &
agent at North Powder. Mr. But-
states that the sack was pui
train all right, but tne
mall clerk finding It was a sack in
tended for the next train Instead of
his. threw It off.
This was a queer proceeding, to say
the leaHt. The train had left the
town and was out In the sagebrush,
by the water tank across the river.
Why should tv throw the sack off the
train InsteaJ of '.(Mowing the usual
course In such cases, carrying it on
and giving it to the proper authority
The matter should be investigated
and jomebody taught a lesson.
The clerk, Mr. Butner says, claim
that he telegraphed back from the
novt .tntlon, Baker, telling the where
abouts of the pouch. But If he did
so, there was no one in the office;
such a message was never rcceivea.
The agent's theory Is that someone
found the sack lying out there by the
tank and robbed It. Not less fcan
three registered letters are known to
have been In It.
