merly located here while superintend
ing construction and repair work over
hie district, from Portland to Hunt
ington, has been called to Portland
and to locate there hereafter. His
territory will remain the same,' but
his superiors wish his location chang
ed, as the extreme east end of the
line has been practically completed.
The block signal service Is now In
full force over all portions of the O.
R. & N. that cross mountains. In
fact, a greater part of the road be
tween Huntington and Portland is
equipped with this catastrophe-saving
device. Along the Columbia river,
where the track Is in the open, there
are places where the service is not
yet installed.
Mr. Qulnn will move his family to
Portland some time this month or

ton. The unique method of carrying
the babies has been the Bubject of
comment everywhere and a number
of photographs of the valise with Its
burden have been taken. Holes were
cut in the top of the telescope and
the mother easily carried the babies

After making an Investigation of
the condition of the growing grain in
the northeastern part of the county,
County Treasurer W. J Honeycutt is
authority for the statement that Wal
la Walla county will be blessed with
a bumper wheat crop the coming sea
son. The mild winter weather which
we have been enjoying this winter the
grain has attained an excellent growth
and unless severe winter weather
comes and causes the grain to blight,
a fine crop is Insured for the next
