I wonder how some of our western
people would like to work for 24

t fancy I hear some of our people
y, "l would not do it." Well, if
they were ill the . same predicament
they would have to starve. It seems
the people have been ground down
io Inntf, that all their ambition has
evaporated and they at leant huve be
come resigned to their lot in life. In
such a state of affairs cun you won
der at those who have ambition left,
to try and get awuy from such a con

there they were leaving the hundreds
per month, and mostly for the United
States or Canada; some to the Aus
tralian colonies, and some to South
Africa.
And now In regard . to the land
tenure.. Since the home rule agitation
the government has voted so - tunny
millions for the purchase of large es
tates and sell them to the farmers,
charging them 4 per cent, and even
tually the farmer will own his hold
ing. It Is something like tho deferred
payment system, If I understand
rlKhtly. In 11104 the government set
aside M,000,(K)0 fr this objert, so
you see In time there will be the
"possibility" of a happy future for
irelund, especially If the people will
cant nslde the ohl-tlme antagonism
tinn live in harmony, one with the

feeling prevails, so long will then
be tumult and disorder. There Is
only one way to accomplish this de--drablt)

us they'd like others to do unto them.
seeing the various places of Interest,
such as tho Lakes of Kiliarney, the
Wlcklow mountains, and by the way,
they need not be afraid to pay a visit
there, as I think all the wild Irish
have been caught. Ha, ha! The
scenery Is rugged and beautiful, and
well worth a trip. Then there Is the
meeting of the waters In the beauti
ful Vale of Avoca, where Tom Moore
was inspired to white his poem of
that name. And again, there's the
Blarney stone, high up In the wall of
Castle Blarney, In County Cork. By

And now there Is one of the won
ders of the world, the noted Giants'
Causeway up in the northeastern part
ol lile IslullU, in me county Auuiiu,
snld county being . the birthplace of
our lute lamented President William
AIcKinley.
Many and various are the theories
of the formation of the Causeway, but
I. think it Is, still a mystery. There's
the great Causeway and little Cause
way. Tills Is a most wonderful work
of nature. The rocks seem as if they
were hewn by the hands of man.
They are concave and convex, placed
side by shle. and are quite smooth.
No doubt they are the action of. the
elements. There are about 60,000 of
them, as fur as can be seen, and all
I can say Is that It Is truly magnifl
cent ami worthy of all commendation
as a wonder of nnture. There are the
beautiful cafes, three in number, but
they can only be entered on a calm
day, as the Ingress Is from the ocean
As It happened, Father Neptune was
In his happiest mood the tlay'l visit
ed, and after securing a boat manned
by two of the natives we entered the
iirsi cave, which Is named "Port
coon." After getting well In we could
see tho bottom, which was covered
with beautiful, sll'-ery sand.

It Settle Down to tlie
Remin-gton
This is the testimony of every typewriter user who knows
by experience the relative performance of writing machines. ,
The man of all men who sweara by the Rrrurifeton is the
man who has tried to get the same service out of some other
machine. t
- A man may know the Remington or he may know some
other typewriter, but the man who really knows typewriters is
the man who knows the difference between the Remington
and others.

a pistol for our edification, that we
might enjoy the echo, and on com
ing out he held a ning pole with a
bug attachment at the end of it to
hold our offering in payment for the
echo. Of course, we did not disap
point htm, und he was made hnppy In
proportion to the amount he received.
We visited another and largest cave,
called Dunkerry. It was like the
other, only more grand and massive.
On coming out Into the open sea we
got a fine view of The Organ, the
Lovers' Leap, Wishing Chair, Chim
ney Pot, etc.
On landing I was Introduced to the
Wishing Well and the patron saint.
"In the shape of nn old lady" who
graciously presented me with a glass
of water, at the same time telling me
:ny v, ls!i uo.ikl be granted, for which
I donated a silver piece to her sulnt
ship. It may interest you to hear the
pcasnnts' theory of the Causeway,
which is as follows: An Irish giant,
one Fin Mat'ool, having a dare to en
gage in battle with the Scotch giant
of his day, and as the Scotchman
could not come to irelund, Fin built
the Causeway. Hut when Fin saw
the Scotch giant coming and noted his
tremendous size, he ran to his house
and asked his wife to cover him up
with the bedclothes, and when the
Scott Inquired for Fin, his wife told
him for the love of the Virgin don't
wake the child, for If Fin heard It
cry and found you were the cause.
Arrah, shure he'd murder you en
tirely. The Scot looked and seeing the
huge bulk In the bed, thought that
was his child, what must Fin he like?
so concluded he'd got a sudden call
home and ho "got."
llefoie leaving Ireland duty called
me to the city of Dublin,, the capital.
and I found It the same old city I had
known 30 years ago, with the excep
tion of the electric cars, and by tne
way. In riding from O'Connors mon
ument to the Phoenix park In these
same cars, I found one of my senses
that I thought lost for a long time.
I mean my sense of smell, for I got a
waft from the river Llffey, that gave
me an assurance that all my senses
were In force, and I can assure you
there was nothing of the perfume ot
Araby the blest, in that waft.
Before leaving I visited one of .the
largest breweries in the world, I mean
Guinness'. It Is large affair, and
I should say an up-to-date concern.
Its buildings cover nine acres, and
they supply a guide to show visitors
through and describe the various pro
cesses of Stout making. The British
government first knighted Mr. Guln
nesa and then created him a Peer of
the Realm under the title of Lord
Iveah. 8o you see there Is something
In the manufacture of Stout other
than Llffey water.
, And. now t must. bid farewell to
my many friends of the ever green
Isle, the land of hospitable homes and
wsrm. Impulsive hearts, and shall
ever keep In .remembrance the friend
ship shown, and which I hope always
to retain, for those that live on the
shamrock shore. Adieu.
