The year 1907 has been a signifi
cant one for women and has brought
them more of political freedom than
most persons realize.
Norway granted full parliamentary
suffrage to women.
Sweden made women eligible to mu
nicipal offices.
Denmark gave women the right to
wot for members of the board of
public charities and made them eligi
ble to serve on such board. 1
Grout Britain mude women eligible
as town councillors, mayors and al
dermen, and at the fall elections
three women were elected municipal
councillors In England and one in
Scotland.
The cabinet ministers of the Neth
erlands drafted o revised constitution
which was approved by the council of
state and has been placed before par
liament; It provides for tho ballot for
women and makes them eligible to
office.
The Young liberal party of Havnila
voted unanimously to Invito women to
Join all Its branch societies as soon us
the prospective change takes place In
the luw of the empire, which forbids
women to be members of any politi
cal association.
Women voted for the first tlmo In
tato elections In Queensland, Austra
lia; and for the first time In history a
majority of any disfranchised class
petitioned for suffrage when the ma
jority of adult women of Iceland
asked for the parliamentary vote.
Parliamentary suffrage was granted,
to Russian women on the same terms
as to men, except that the froniorl

al bank of this city for the fiscal year
Just ended, were all re-elected to serve
the ensuing year at a meeting of the
directors of that Institution this after
noon. Tho usual dividends have been
declared.
The session was a brief one and al
though many topics" of direct Interest
to the Institution were discussed and
many disposed of, the principal mat
ter of interest to the public is the de
cision reached to odd an additional
$10.0(10 to the bank's surplus fund.
This places that rigufe at (60,000,
where formerly it stood at $50,000.

which will continue to hold their po
sitions by reason of tho action of the
directorate today, aro:
