home of E. W. Davis, corner First and
Main atreets, last evening, with Mrs.
Mary Mallory. Mrs. A. T. Hill and
Mlsa Ethel Davis as hostesses, assisted
by Miss Maud Mallory. The house
waa beautifully decorated with white
Christmas bells, green vines with white
plants. The topic under discussion
was "The Business Men'a Temperance
Movement," under the leadership of
H. R. Hanna. Messrs. Brenholta,
Hodglns, Wright, Cleaver and Judge
Crawford gave able speeches and their
hearers were thoroughly convinced
that the temDerance movement was
one of the burning questions of the
day, and that It will be Just a matter
of a short time , until local option
will carry In this state. Mr." Bren'
holts supplemented his remarks by

from prominent business men of Wal
lowa county, stating that they are well
satisfied with conditions as existing
there now under local option.
After the talk the remainder of the
evening was spent in conversation and
