Will R. King has been appointed com
missioner of the Oregon supreme court by
Governor Chamberlain. Will R. Kins
was a resident of the state of Washington
at the time of his appointment. Why did
Governor Chamberlain select a man from
4 Mishborlng state to fill this important
seat when there is so much good material
to be found in Oregon. True! Mr. Kino
maintaineJ a branch office in Ontario and
claimed Oregon as his home when looking
for official plums, but ' the fact remains
that that his family lived jn .Walla Walla,
he had spent . most of his time in ths
Washington side of the liner, and refa red
to Walla Walla as "home" when spesklrg
of that city to people other Lhan tha
dealers out of good things official. -

Roderick King, fusionist; and William
Rufus King populist. Since success has
been attained under the tricolor a little

Way back in 1892 W. R. King is sailing
along serenly under the flag of democracy
over In Malheur county. He is attacked
by the political bee about this time and
the faithful elect him to the state legisla
tive. He makes the usual record in the
lower house and 'upon his return to.eastern
Oregon, having outgrown the somewhat
undeveloped Malheur .county, he comesto
Baker City where he forms a law Dart-
nership vth the late T. Calvin Hyde, one
of the foremost legal lights of the state.
At this time Mr. King is still in the ranks
of ths followers of the meek and lowly
ass. ...
Two years after Commissioner King's
election to the house the populists swept
this section of the country by storm, far
and near the cry of , the' pops is heard.

Then the bombshell bursts. Will R.
King, democrat, resident 'of Wafla Walla,
Washington, Is appointed commissioner of
the Oregon state supreme court. Such is
