sen accuses The Recorder as being in-

Yet at the same time the sectors out
side of La Grande must look to their in-
erests, if they expect to be justly dealt
with in county affairs. La G'ande is
showing a spirit that might be consider
ed hoggish when it is considered that two
members of the county court are resi
dents of that city. La Grande will con
tinue to exhibit this too, just as long as
other towns of the county stand for it.
The thing to do is for Elgin and Union
and their surrounding communities to
stand together on matters pertaining to
county affairs and get what thev are en-
titled to. The voting strength of these
two sections is such that La Grande can
be kept within the bounds of reason.
Another of the Union papers claims that
Union has been filched out of $1800
road money, and if this is a fact no time
should be lost in forming an alliance and
giving La Grande to understand that she
is not the "whole show." There is no
need of beating around the bush in this
matter any longer. ' La Grande has and
always will try to get the best of the
bargain and the thing to do is to call a
halt. Union people should consider the
fact that a division of the county will not
bring about a settlement of this matter,
for division would be unjust to Elgin and
and Northern Union in the extreme. Let
ua secure our just representation bv
working together in this matter, leaving
the county intact-Elgin Recorder.
