who in a slave, and can neither speak nor
write English, was, on the 24th of May
ast first sentenced to death for the mur
der of the man who had once been his
friend. The story was that the murderer
had been too friendly with Mrs. Hoff. and
on January 7th took his victim out for a
walk, tilled him with drink, hit him on the
head with a hammer and then laid him
on the tracks of the Lackawanna railroad
at Bloomfield, so that the train finished
his work.
