BAKER CITY
TRIAL REWS
Apparently there is little probability of
a decision on the motion for a directed
verdict in the Widdowson murder trial
until some time tomorrow. The entire
morning and a great portion of the after
noon was occupied by Judge White in
presenting his argument for the motion
and the time of action by the court will
be regulated by the length of the argu
ment for the state ae ' presented by Mr.
Lomax; bays The uu City I!:r:!i.
Saturday the state rested its case,
against Alex' Widdowson, who Is held
with Ira Brown charged with the murder
of Willard Moody, and the attorneys for
the defense offered a -motion' for the
court to direct the jury to return a verdict
of not guilty.
In his argument today Judge White
cited a large number of parallel cases all
of which, he contended, presented strong
er circumstances against the defendant
than the case at bar, and all of which
were finally decided in favor of the ac
cused, v- .. , , . .
If the court allows the motion of "the
defense the case will be thrown out of
court but in the event that the state
wins the argument the testimony of the
defense will necessarily be presented and
the case given to the jury with only the
usual instructions.
