as an additional evidence of the confidence
n the continued prosperity enjoyed by
he citizen tax payers of Elgin, it is almos
a foregone conclusion that at the school
election to be held next Saturday the tax
payers will vote to bond the district for
$20,000 to build new modern brick
school building.
At present there are four hundred
children enrolled, and nine teachers are
employed. The schools are under the
able management of Prof. W. L Tucker
who took charge the first of the present
school year. -
Since taking charge Prof. Tucker has
added a high school course, and at pre
sent has ten pupils in this department
The eighth grade now has forty young
men and women ranging in age from
sixteen to twenty years, and the Pro
fessor says he hae reason to believe that
thirty-five of these will enter the high
school next year. Each department of
the school is under the care of an ex
perienced teacher and the work i pro
perly and effectively carried on.
In the main building is the library room
where seven! hundred wisely selected
volumes are at the disposal of the pupils
