STAlf LIBRRRY AI PIltDLtTON
Petitions for a stata library at Pandle
! ton have bten placed in the nands of five
eastern Oregon juJ.cia! districts and La
' Grande attorneys gensrally have signed
it. The need of a state library at Pen
' diet n is created by the fact that the
supreme cjurt holds two sessions in that
city annually wnere eastern Oregon cases
exclusively are being hoard. There is no
public library in Pendleton and when at
torneys go thore to argue cases they must
borrow law b.oks from Pendleton at
torneys. It is recited in the petition that there
are a number of duplicate books in the
library at Salem and these could be brot
to Pendleton to form the nucleus of the
state library. The amount to be approp
iated by the legislature is left blank and
is to be filled in at the discretion of the
legislators.
