Mr. R. McKinzey, left this morning for
Walla Walla, where he will remain for some
time.
Miss Kate Zweifel has returned to the
city after spending several weeks at heme
near Summerville.
The little daugnter of Mr and Mrs W
W Berry who are visiting in this cty, is
ill with typhoid fever. Mr and Mrs Berry
came over from Pendleton where the
former is employed, to visit feiends, and
since coming here the little girl has been
taken ill.
Druggist A T Hill ha installed a hand
some pair of scales in his store for the ac
commodation of the general public, where
by they may call at any time and see
how much they weigh. This is exactly
what these scales were purchased for and
Mr. Hilt desires that the . general public
will feel perfectly free to use the same.
Senator P A McDonald returned this
morning from Salem to spend hi; few
days vacation with his family. He re
ports the senate and house in good work
ing condition, and that much good work
will be accomplished during the session.
H C Rinehart, the Summerville mer
chant, was a La Grande visitor last night
returning home tnis morning.
T Walsh, Supt of the Washington, D v
ision of the 0 R & N was a passenger .

meet his wife and son J A Walsh, who
are returning from the East on passenger

many friends of Mr Walsh to learn she
found her mother's health greatly im
proved. '

Bishop George Stoddard tendered an
elaborate reception to the choir of the
Latter Day Saints' church, at his. home
last evening. The evening "was spent by
renditions by the choir, the church quarr
tett and solos by Mr. Ferrin and others.
Liter, when music had entertained the
large number of (juests, the host an
nounced dinner and the guests were ush
ered about a table laden with luxurious
eatables and decorated with roses' and
flowers so as to make it resemble a bow
I er, but whan all were seated, they found
the delicacies hidden beneath the fllwers
and mirth and p'.oasure reigned supreme.
Post festival speeches were made by the
host, Hon. C W Nibley'and F S Barnwell.
The party broke up after additional ren-
jditions of choir music and solos.
