f IRST PRIZE
Hood River carried off th prize for the
best apple display at the meeting of the
State Horticultural Society. Hood River
sent a strong delegation to this meeting
and incidentally cent aboutSOO boxes of
her best fruit, as a result - Hood 'River
carried off fifteen cups out of a possible
eighteen. Grande Ronde valley was hon
ored by the selection of our fellow citizen,
C. D. Huffman, as second vice-president
Grande Ronde valley should have had
display of apple, at this meeting. We
must wake up and take advantage of all
these opportunities. The county court
has authority to apend $1000 annually
for advertising purposes.
There ia little question but if the fruit
uniens of this county would have come be
fore the court at the proper time, that
they would have willingly appropriated
$KO or nnihlv HI OO Th' wnnM hnv
paid some one to have collected a' display,
accompanied it to Portland, taken care of
it and after the meeting was over sold
the display to some dealer and paid the
growers the market price for their fruit.
We believe that properly managed, $50
would have made a good showing for the
county and hundreds of people would
have known that wa are on the map. It
too late now for this occasion but there
are other things to follow that we can
take advantage of, but to do so soma one
or some organization must commence a
sufficient time before and arrange for it
We must wake up. ' There are thousands
of people coming to this coast during the
spring. Thie county needs more people
and should make an effort to secure them.
We are possessed of the natural advant
ages, but we are not making the effort

SPECIAL MEETINGS
There was a good audience at the
special meeting in the Presbyterian church
last night. Dr. Seemann preached an ex
cellent sermon on "The Power of Love"
He said among other things "that love
wa. th. gr.atest thing in the world." It
was grast because it was beautiful, he
illustrated this by speaking of the human
relationships such as that of friend to
friend, brother to brother, father to ton,
wife to husband. It was great because
it lead, one to love and ssrve Christ - We
love Him because He first loved us."
Love is grsat because it ia powerful, a.
it i. shown in the text (Gal. 6:13-14.). It
is a power that works for righteousness,
Again it is a pow.r that enable, u. to
work for other, and make, our services
irresistible. Mr. C. E. Cochran captured
our hearts again by singing the solo, "A
Clean Heart." Dr. Seeman will speak
tonight m the subject "Some man who
have met Christ." Mr. C. E. Cochran
will sing the beautiful solo, "Sine. I found
My Savior." A warm invitation i. given
to all to attend and bring your friend..
