made to bring white labor to the South
ern States. The colonizing of Italians in
some of the mill sections is well on the J
way. The very rapid pacj with which
new mills are being run up has greatly
exceeded the growth of labor and though
many inducements areheld out to fami
lies to go to mill " towns in the South,
where wages are good and steady em
ployment offered, the supply is yet far
below the demand. With the worlds re
quirements fast approaching a 16,000,
000 bale crop, it is estimated that sever
al hundred thousand more field laborers
are needed in the South to help to produce
the raw cotton, and if the present per

Rene Webb, an American. The famous
Spanish dancer first met Mr. Webb at
Buenos Ayres. The marriage took place
at the American Consulate in Paris' and
the religious ceremony at the Madeleine.
Serorita Otera made her debut in Barce
lona, and her first appearance in Paris in
1691.' She was 58 years old on Christ

been formed here to dredge for 'gold at
the bar of the Columbia river. The sand
contain both iron and gold in large quan
tities and the recent analysis made by a
government geologist show that the iron
would pay for the working. Electricity
and a magnetic separator will be Used.
