Miss Gallatin has. beside her vo ce and
beauty, a great deal of ability. Sne is an
actress not yet come to her cwn. fvt
should she keep in doing as v.'di as sne
did last night it will not be long before
the Americ;n public wi'l recognize her as
one of the country's artists. .
The play is a charming romance of the
Elizabethan period and, tho closely as
stciated with historical episodes, the in
terest except for the strong love stcry
which the play contains.
CIMAXES ARE STRONG .-'
Charles Major, the author, has drawn
his characters as one sees them in the
pages of h. story. The scenery, too, is
correct in every detail, the representation
of Haddon Hall being an especially
beautiful piece of work. The climaxes
are strong and tho the play does not al
low for much emotion yet Missuallatin is
able to draw all there is from the lines.
James K. Applebee as the jester does
splendid work. The part is. a minor -one,
but this does not hide h.s histnoncal abili
ties from the audience. He is a good
actor and one would like to see him in

INVESTING IN OREGON TIMBER
A tract of fir timber, consisting of
about 500,000,000 feet, in Lane county,
has been sold by J. D.Lacey St Co. to Kent
& Moberly. The price paid was in the
neighborhood of $200,000. The purcnis
ers are large operators in yellow pine in
Louisiana. J. D. Lacey & Co. selected the
timber from various owner of small tracts
and cruised it, and on this cruise the
purchase was mad. The southerners
acquired it as an investment, believing in th
theory that Oregon timber values are
bound to advance in the next five or 1 0
years. In the last two month Lacey &Co.
have invested for eastern and southern
clients $1,500. 000 ir Oregon and Columbia
