Bramwell came over from funeral services for Mrs. George England and Mrs. J. T Jones and her two children Union Scout. R. E. Smith, head clerk in the Foster Brown store, has accepted a position at La Grande,' and expects to go to his new field of labor about the first of the year. The Smiths will be mis- ed by many friends in Union, who will wish them well in their new home. Union Republican. Mr. Jackson Graham, who has been ill at the honma of her daughter in La Grande for several weeks, was brot to this city at her own request After ar riving here Mrs. Graham seemed a little improved, but her age is such that her chances for recovery are very poor. Eaton, the Elgin photographer who fell several days ago and sustained a broken thigh, is still in a bad condition but it is thot that the fractured part is im proving slightly at thi time. He will doubtless be confined to his bed foi sev eral months. . Miss M. M. Slattery has returned from Pendleton where she purchased the Pen dleton Business College. Miss Slattery is certainly making a success in this line of work as represented in her busi ness schools in Spokane. La Grande and her recent acquisition of the Pendleton school. QUICK WORK Frank Sharkey who was arrested in this city a few days ago for horse steal ing in Wallowa county wheie ha was taken for trial. He pled guilty and was sentenced to two years. Ellis of Athena, Oregon, who for ' 14 years was pastor of the First Baptist church of Baker City is quite ill and has been ordered to California.
