present to the United States Four years
ago. during the great panic, silver trept
down and down day by day and when it
reached 56 cents the industry went to
peces. The low water mark was reached
in December 1902 when the white metal
went to 47.1 cents an ounce. At present
the whole country is crying for silver and
the movement of the United S'.ates gov
ernment in purchasing mines has caused
London to make heavy purchase of sil
ver. Money is needed badly, and as the
comparatively few silver dollars in this
country are kept in the government vaults
while the silver certificates . which cover
thenvare kept in circulation, it is possible
that silver will be coined in such immense
quantities from now on as to justify the
revival of the silver mining industry on a
large scale in Colorado.
