nineteen sheep were killed this 'morning
in a smashuo of two stockcars in the
yards of this city. The freight trrin
under Conductor Hancock of La Grande,
and of which the two cars were a part, '
was working in tha yards, when the two
cars containing sheep were rammed to
gether. When the wrecker arrived from
La Grande and cleared away the debris,

At three-thirty this afternoon a switch
engine brot to this city, from Meacham,
Conductor Charles Stacy, Ticket Agent
P. Rogers of Meacham and a strangsr
workman, named Jim Kay, all three suf
faring terribly from burns inflicted by the
explosion of a can of powder.
Stacy and the ticket agent, Mr. Rogers
and a workman from the construction
crew at Meacham, were unloading cans
of powder from a box car to the
depot platform. In setting one of
them to the platform, it exploded
The consequence, while not fatal to either
of the three men, was that all are burned
in a frightful manner. They rolled them'
selves in the snow to extinguish the Are
which had been ignited in their clothes.
The engineer and assistants loaded
them into the engine and brot them to
this city where Dr. Bacon dressed the
wounds. Tne skin was actually burned
off their hands, their faces were black as
coal, some of course which was only smoks
and washsd off. Two finger nails were
blown off Mr. Stacey's hands. The agent
is perhaps burned the most seriously, the
workman being least hurt of any.
At four o'clock all were having their
wounds washed and dressed butthe pains
are still very severe.
No exact details could be secured at the
late hour but it is evident that something
other than the powder was in the can, as
the jar was not sufficient to explode the
powder.

loss of two hundred thousand dollars worth

torney of this city ; John Rurnsey, of this
city; and Ety Landrum, a clerk., Three
a borers, acting as firemen, James Mc-
Culchen of Pittsburg and Varsity Fullback
Clarence J. Cope, of Nsv Jersey, were
fatally hurt, while trying to run the gaunt
let of fire in the hall. They all fell un
conscious, i ' 1 . '
The bodies have been removed from the
burning structure after control had been
gotten of the flames, except Nichols and
Schmuck. Robinson, Landrum and Rum-
say were pouring water into a window
whsn the wall fell, crushing them all be
yond recognition.
The body of S. W. Crelle of New Jerssy
was taken from the ruins, Ths body was
burned beyond recognition.

Carson City, Dec. 7 Two miners, one
known as Johnny and the other as J-je
Ibapap. were hanged this morning for the
murder of a tramp named Fred Foreman.
Foreman was a cripple and wae attacked
last year at Elko and stabbsd to death.
The body was afterwards horribly muti
lated and then placed alongside of a fire,
causing cremation.
