He pleaded for fair play on the part of the operation and operative. He de nounced Hearst, Bryan, Gompers, Schmitz and Ruef and continued: Trade unions are the autocrats who exist. Good employers and well behaved laborers must work in harmony. JAn oppressive employer is the ' worse enemy to society than the demagogue he assails." He ad vocated an increase in wages, urged I manufacturer's share. Walier Drew, commissioner of the National Directors Association told the the Industrial Association that "The open shop and industrial crime brot the work to a stand still. The employer is to be centured. The blame is on all who sianp by and watched the results of the closed shop." The resolution proposed, de clares that it is the epnion of the senate that tr.ere is no provision in the treaty with JaDan in reference to the subjecfor mforfpr with the rent of the state of California to conduct a system of schools in accordance with its own legislation, Ravnor will speak on the subject to morrow. The resolution was laid on the table and the senate adjourned. Senator Tillman left before the reading ! of the message began.
