The wisdom of this move appears to have been justi d by tne packed houses that greet th company everywhere. The play is an eniovable' New Fnalanri rwnriu dnm. and for ih. na.t n,n. h.. , J operatic concert consisting of scenes from vu Portland Contralto Delights Washington Audience Tha Ladie Matinee Musical Club of Spokane engaged Mr. Walter Reed of Portland, says the Oregonian, for two venings of song, the event being highly suc:issful from an artistic standpoint On the first evening she assisted at an y o !-. various operas given in costume. The second evening mad a still heavier de mand upon her powers. Th Spokesman Review says: The song recital given by Mr. Walter Reed .of Portland under tha auspices of th Ladies Matinee Musical last evening was on of th bright particular musical events of a Mason of good things. Th songs are arduous but wholly delightful program and th mora she sang th stronger did her Work and her personalit y appeal. There ware sixteen number of her pro gram, and they included Scotc h, English, French, German andSpanish compositions, Th spirit of them all, often touching entirely different chords of sentiment and and calling for different treatment, was expressed with sympathetic understanding and excellent vocal style. I "In the brighter numbers like th God rad Morcans tnd 'The .Chivalier Belle' Eftelle, (Augusta Holmes) Mrs. Reed was at her best finding happy expression in sunshiny moods. In the more character istic ballad forms she was also at home, having ample sentiment for all she song. Nor did the other numbers lack. The delightful Scotch number were charm ingly sung and the familiar Irish folksong (Foots) was a gem." , Mr. Walter Reed is th best known contralto on the Pacific Coast. Has studied under the best masters in America and Europe, and her lovely voice and splendid method win her approbation and applause vherever she sings.
