wonderful voice has charmed millions of
people in ali parts of the world, cava a
farewell concert in the Albert Hall, to
the people of London tonight. The ceil
ing and fashionable London turned out In
full force to hear the diva. It is just fiftv-
six years ago that Madame Patti, then
seven years of age, first sang in public in
New York. Her next appearance was
nine years later, when, after a course of
itudy. she played the role of Lucia on
Nov. 24'h 1859 and achieved tremen-
luous success. Two years later she
crossed the Atlantic to sing at Covent
Garden, beginning a career at London's
principal Opera House which lasted
Iwauly yeais. During uiese twenty years
her earnings ranged between $150,000
and $170,000. Tours of North and South
America and Argentina brought her aver
greater money rewards and it would be
safe to state that during the time she has
been singing her voice has earned $3,750-
000. For many single engagements in
London she has received $4,000. while it

playing in Opera, she once received the
sum of $5,000 for each presentation.

of Directors of the Pennsylvania Railroad
Company, the advance of ten per cent in
the wages of all the employes receiving
under $200 a month comes into effct to
day.

companys payroll means a monthly in
