Bangor, Ma. Nov. 1 9. The potato ship
pers of Arostook County claim, that up
to the present their loss will amount to
over SI 600,000 on account of lack of
ears to remove the crop. The crop in
Maine this year has been above the aver
age but owing to inadequate transporta
tion faciluties, growers will suffer great
loss.

overheard a conversation in which he

The competitors are Charles Peterson,
St, Louis; Albert Cutler, Boston; Al Tay
lor, Ghicago; "Gray Tom" Gallagher and
Edward McLaughlin, New York and Harry
Paine, Phila. Players who have not won
a world's championship for ten years are
only eligible and the winner of the cham
pionship emblem will be required to play
witnin thirty days, if called on, after re
ceiving a challenge, and it will rest with
the champion to name the city where he
wishes to defend his title. Most money
is being laid on Cutler.
