To The People of La Qrande. To Whom It May Concern: Of late there has been a cood deal of discussion in La Grande in regard to ad vertised medicines and their value the papers are full of them. We want to say to every man, woman and child in La Grande that we believe the most valuable preparation of cod liver oil the best tonie reconstructs, health restorer and strength creator we have ever sold in our store is Vinol. Vinol is hot a patent medicine, it con tains no injurious drues. but it actually does contain all of the medicinal, curative elements taken from fresh cods' livers, without a drop of the useless oil to upset the stomach and retard.its work, and tonic iron added. Vitol is recognized thruout the world as the greatest strennth creator for old people, weak, sickly women, and children nursing mothers, and after a serious ill ness. Vinol cures hacking coughs, chronic colds bronc'itis and all throat and lung troubles. We ask the people of La Grande to try Vinol on our offer to return money if its fails. Newlin Drug Co. PNEUMONIA YIELDS TO TDFATMFNT CONCESSION Of SCIENTISTS VERIFIES OS TEOPATHIC THE0RY.-THE GERM ONLY AN AUXILIARY CAUSE AND OSTEOPATHY FINDS AND CORRECTS THE ORIGINAL -ONE Recently this journal published com ments upon the finding of the Pneumonia Commission, which has been conducting investigations under the auspices of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research and now that the annual harvest of death thru this disease is beginning the facts then brot out requires fresh emphasis. Briefly tie commission found that pneumonia is caused by a germ, and its chief recommendtions were made with the aim of preventing the communication of that germ from one person to another. Yet it was admited in the report of the commission that the pneumococcus, or pneumonia germ, was found in the mouths of nineteen out of twenty-one sound and healthy persons upon whom tests were made, which would seem to indicate that efforts to preve.it the communication of tiie germ from one person to another wi be of little avail. Other causes must be looked for, and Osteopathy long ago found them. It has long been an axiom that germs can do harm unless they find debilitated tissue in which to fiest and multiply. This fully explains why some people, in whose mouths the pneumonia germ is fourd. con tract pneumonia, while the great majority do not. In those who contract the disease there has simply been awakened lung tissue which offered a breeding ground fur germs, and the refuse from these germs brot onr the acuta condition. It would seem manifest that whatever brot about the weakened condition of the lung tissue was the original cause of the dis ease. WHAT CAUSES WEAKtNfD TISSUE Equally apparent is the truth of the proposition that, if proper nerve im pulses and normal circulation of good bl'od existed in these tissues, they would not be weakened and would not have of fered a congenial home for germs. And similarly easy of comprehension is the Osteopathic assertion that weakened lung tissue indicates interference with the nerves supplying the lungs, or with the nerves controlling the blood circulation to and from the lungs. The Osteopathic plan of search for the said interference and correcting it is therfore manifestly the correct one. It is for this reason that the disease has n it the terrors for the Osteopathy that it has for other phys cia ns, and that such t celient results are accomplished undei Osteopathic treatment. Contraitured nr tensed muscljs are found which dtfocl the spine or directly alfect reives aid vessels; depicssud or twiid ribs arc found which c.iuie crowding, ar.d in sad justed vertebrae in the spine are alway prolific causes of trouble. OSTEOPATHIC MEASURES OUTIINED Any or all the "lesions" may be found in a case of pneumonia, and it is thru their efToct upon nerves and blood vessels or upon the sympathis, nervous system, and the original weakened condition of the lung tissues, which makes the disease possible, is created. Osteopathic work includes manipulative treatment for re ducing fever and lesening the immediate suffering of the patient, besides exclusive ly corrective measures for adjusting the parts whose mal-position has been th original source of trouble. Osteopathic treatment in pneumonia has been so suc cessful that th outlook in thes cases which is usually not very favorable under treatment, may be pronounced good under the new system.
