L. Mohler, vice president and general manager of the Union Pacific, who reached Portland this week. The Union Pacific is installing the elec tric automatic block signal system along its line. This work will be completed early in January and will cost ov,r$I, 000,000, for which the railroad receives nothing except the satisfaction of added security to life and property. In this particular the Union Paciffc will be in advance of all western lines. CENTRAL RAILWAY Since last week the Central Railway company has received twelve cars of steel, and the same has been laid this week at the rate of 3,100 feet per day. There are twelve cars more of steel on the way, which it is thought will complete the road to Cove. She company has plenty of ties, bolts, bars and spikes to complete the road to Cove and all that is needed is the next shipment of rails which is on the way and will arrive at any time. The work is going along nicely, considering the obstacles that have been encountered. The Hunt siding was put in this week, and sugar beets will be loaded at that point until suoh time as the road penetrates further into the sugar beet section. All in all, the Central com pany has made good headway this week, and will continue pushing the work as fast as possible. Republican. A NEW RECORD A. N.
