The District Attorneys of the state in
considering a revision of some of the
criminal laws advocate a change in the
present law which punishes theft from a
dwelling, no matter how trivial, with con
finement in the penitentiary. The pro
posed change is to give the circuit judges
power to give jail sentences or fine. This
is as it should be. At the last term of
our circuit court men were sent to the peni
tentiary for petty theiving, because of the
existing law, when a short jail sentence
would have been far better: The history
of penitentiary incarcerations does not
place such institutions in the line of reformatories.
The Herald states tnat one firm in
Albany will ship one hundred 40,000
pound cars of cured prunes this season.
The vinegar factory at Eugene is doing
a fine business thi6 year. Our proposed
vinegar factory seems to have died a
born'n.
Generally speaking the potatoe crop in
Eastern Oregon is repjrted to be short.
The crop in this county is f jlly up to the
average and theie will be many carloaJs
shipped out.
Farmers in the Willamette valley are
just beginning to realize that alfalfa is
is one of the mast profitable crops that
they cjn raise.
Ai we learn by actual experience, the
distance between apple trees are notice
able by eorrpar.ng :re orcnards that
were set out several years a;o with those
now being set cut, and man are now
advocating that the trees be placed forty
feet apart.
STOMACH DISORDERS.
Dyspepsia and its tribe of ills are
often, without doubt, the results of exces
sive or injudicious eating. In such cases
injudicious eating is the cause; and, as
Osteopathy aims always at the removal
of the cause, the first movement toward
cure must be in the line of common sense
in food and drink. In many instances,
however, bad habits of eating have es
tablished conditions which cannot be rec
tified simply by changes in quality and
quantity of diet. The strain of too much
food brings about results on the struc
ture of the body much the same as any
other strain, and correction by Osteopa
thic manipulation becomes necessary.
In many cases, too, people suffer from
stomach trouble when their habits as to
eating and drinking are perfectly regular
and within reason. This simply indicates
that the stomach forces are not equa: to
their work that in some manner the
great nrgan of digestion is being denied
its rightful share uf blood nourishment
and nerve vigor. Osteopathy finds the
obstruction which is responsible, removes
it by skilled manipulative work, and al
most uniformly secures excellent results.
