man star system, but demand a good all
around collection of new modern Reform
ers . The fright wig. the stuffed club, the
handful of flour, the dummy, the public
relegate to the rear; the old regulation
vocal quartette must give way to the full
chorus, necessitating four times the orig
inal number of singers and the old pawn
broker's spike-tail coat must be replaced
by the finest, most elaborate brocades.
But a few years ago, comparatively, a
well known comedian in presenting his
monologue called attention to the elegant
satin d ess suit used for the occas on. the
bill reading that the "costume worn would
be the finest ever use by any minstrel
star." Mr. Henry presents eight com
edians all of whom wear satin brocade
costumes, each of which is double the
value of the one so prominently starred.
What would organize and start an old
time minstrel snow w- uld not pay the
summer repairs on Mr. Henry's cars
alone. The Hi Henry Big Modern Show
will appear at Steward's Opera House on
Saturday Oct. 20, and the public can
turn their strongest eye glasses on the
elegant costumes of Mr. Henry's comed
ians and on the entire asembly, as well
as on the gorgeous scenery and electric
effect finer by far than many produced
in the grand opera.
It was in the year of 1857 that the
immortal Richard Wagner first conceived
his idea relating to the grand possibilites
contained in the legend of the "Holy
Grail" for a wonderful spectacle and
drama. It was not until twenty-five
years later, namely 1882, that his idea
was carried out to his satisfaction and
the world was given the glorious work of
"Parsifal." It is said that his first inten
tion was to present "Parsifal" simply as
a dramatic production, but was induced
later to change his mind and produce it
in combination music form. By his doing
so, the world gained two grand produc
tions instead of one. It will forever re
main as the grandest of all music coin
positions. It will as surely stand for all
time as the grandest drama ever writton.
It requires a trained mind, a cultivated
musician, to enjoy the music of Wagner.
One must thoroughly understand a thing
to equally enjoy it.

HINDOOS SHOVEL DIRT WITH HAND
Grand Forks, N. C. To find his gang
of Hindoos carefully smoothing down the
side of a dump on the railway grade with
their hands was the sorrowful experience
of Fred Lane, a contractor on the Kettle
Valley Line railway. Mr. Lane employed
a small gang of Hindoos on his contract
and was forced to discharge them. In
speaking on the subject last evening, he
said:
''The Hindoos are most willing workers
but totally unfit for railway work. They
are extremely ignorant of all kinds of
manual labor and do not appear to have
the phisycal strength requisite for the work.
They invariably start uung their hands
for work when they should use a shovel,
and they do not eat ennugh of the right
kind of food to sustain them.
"They absolutely refuse to eat meat
and potatoes, but use a kind of baked
bread, which they dip in black grease,
with which they seem to be well supplied
and this bread and grease constitutes
their food."
