SCHOOL
GIRL IS
E
The E gin Recorder of yesterpay re
lates the following:
Fioyd Calioway. who is attending the
State Normal school at Weston, gives an
account in a letter which his parents re
ceived this week, of how Glena Merritt,
young lady of this city, who is attending
the same school, rescued Miss Anna
Richards, of Cove, from the railroad
trestle near Weston Monday and probably
saved her life. .
Just prior to the arrival of the 4:30
passenger train in Weston Ave of the
young ladies from the Normal were out
walking.nd were crossing the long trestle
when the train came in. It appears the
girls did not hear the train until it was
close upon them. Three of the girls who
were in advance of Misses Merrit and
Richards crossed in safety but the Rich
ard's girl became panic stricken and
stood helpless in the middle of the track.
Ciena, who was a few feet in advance of
the terror-stricken girl returned and half
carried and half dragged the helpless
girl to safety at the end of the trestle,
wiioie tin outer companions suxxi fright
ened beyond action. When the heroine
reached a place of safety with her help
less victim the train was within less than
fifteen feet of her, and it was due to her
quick action and bravery that the gii
was saved, as from all accounts it seems
the engine crew knew nothing of the
presence of the girl. It was an act of
bravery and not one girl in a hundred
would have gone back, facing death as it
sesmsd to rescue the other.
