PRINCETON EE ATS THE NAVY
(Bcrlppa News AHoclatlon)
Annapolis, Oct. 15 The Navy football
Uam was defeated by the Princeton col
lege team today by a score of five to no
thing. Neither scored in the first half,
but the Princeton took a decided race in
the last half and scored touchdown.
ELGIN FOOTBALL TEAM
The Elgin High school is going to pro
duce a football team. Principal W. L.
Tucker was in the city this morning and
stated that they have organized over
there and within a short time will have a
creditable team in tne field. It will be
light, however, averaging perhaps 130.
He also stated that Elgin s anxious to
meet La Orande on the gridiron this fall.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
The girls who are contemplating the
organization of a basketball team met
last evening ar.d discussed the plant.
They have been stranded on the proposi
tion of securing a hall, all suitable hall in
the city being held at enormous price.
However, they are still confident ot per
fecting the organization. ,
Earl Kilpatrick and Joel Richardson,
who are attending the U. of O. can be
teen on the varsity campus these even
ings receiving instructions under coach
Bezdek, a member of the Chicago 1906
middle west champions, as to how best to
fall on the ball, tackle and all the other
phases of footballism. While their
chances for the team is uncertain it
would not be surprising if the two La
Grande boys would make the varsity
squad. The track coach at the U has
his eye on Joel for the weights next
spring and Earl for the jumps. Both have
the ability, which wili assert itself more
strongly whn under expert coaching.
Last -evening after school hours, the
new organized high school team lined up
against a pick-up team and scored two
touchdowns. The showing made by the
candidates for the highs, is promising. For
the first half the scrubs gained consistent
ly and kept the highs fromsco-ing. How
ever in the secord half the students as
sumeJ a more perfect offense and scored
twice. "Doc" Bacon for the highs was
a consistent ground gainer, going thru the
scrubs' line for nice gains. The prospects
for a school team brightened materially
after last ovening's performance. The
line is light but the little fellows charted
well and demonstrated that though they
did not have the besf behind them, they
at least showed the proper spirit and
went at their opporer.ts with a will
Bay
and Herring took Urns at skirting
ends. The bak f.cid is speedy and
tne
enough for any high school team, but
line is light.
