Indiana buffaloe hides are entitled to free
entry. The question at the issue is
whether such are to be regarded as"hides i
of cattle" as toe term is used in the tariff
or as hides specially provided for."
The Treasury Department maintains
that these buffaloe hides are hides of cat
tle and are therefore suhjec t to 15 per
cent duty. Seven I years ago the question
as to the classfication of these so-called
buffalo hides cams up and was passed
upon by the Board of Appraisers and the
Federal Courts. All of the tribunals
found against the importers. The mat
ter then went along for some years when
the importers presinted another case t
the Board of Appraisers whicn ruled ;n
their favor sustaining the claims of free
entry. The Treasury department does
not accept this ruling which was against
the previous decision of the courts, and
has decided to hae the matter again
submitted to tne courts with a view to
