THE TEUS COTTON CROP
frrfpp New Awor1ntlnn
Galvetton. Oct. 12 Tho th recent
rains slightly affected the cotton crop in
this state, it is estimated by experts that
the output will exceed what was expected.
In Mexico pickers are in great demand
at prices ranging from 65 cents to $1 per
1 00 pounds. In the Heme section the
gins are kept very busy, though a good
deal of trouble is caused by the win' of
pickers. In Kie'een the yield will be
alone the average though pickers are
scarce. In Oak wood the crop is double
what it was exDected to be. and mer
chants doing brisk business. In Waller,
cotton is coming in rapidly and the town
is brisk with farmers in laying the r win
ter supp'y. All the railway systems in
Texas are sufferering from car famine,
and the worst feature of the shortage is
the fact tht the business has not jet
reached its height.
HALMS NOT GUILTY
(Baker City Democrat.)
Shortly after noon yesterday introduc
tion of testimony by the State in the case
of Will Hall, charged with larceny by
stealing . mares, . was . closed and the
State rested its case. Attorneys Hart
and Nichols for the defense, without intro
ducing the testimony at once moved the
court for the direction of the verdict of
acquittal on the grounds that there was
not evidence sufficient to go to the jury.
After lengthy arguments by counsels on
both sides, the sourt allowed the motion
and instructed the jury accordingly which
without leaving the box returned a ver
dict of acquittal and the defendant was
released.
Hall was charged with aiding Hindman
Meldrum with stalling horses from Dor
sett and Enstrong.
THE DECREASING RUBBER SUPPLY
i ne Decreasing rustier supply has re
sulted in a snarp ana apparently per
manent advance in prices. A Madagascar
journal, according to a consular report.
has compiled figures on the world's sup
ply of rubber last year, and places this at
57.000 tons, one-third produced in South
America and one-fifth in Africa. It was
all used, nearly half of it coming to the
United States. The worH's production
this year is estimated at 75.000 tons
valued at $116,000,000. The price of
Congo rubber has advanced in four years
from $1.64 to $2.58 per kilogram of 2. 2
pounds.

REMARKABLE GEORGIAN CHOIR
ifk-iippe New AasocUtien)
Atlanta, Ga Oct 12.-At the stata
fair in Piedmont Park here today over
five thousand voices composed a grand
chorus that sang a number of well known
old songs of the south. Before the fair
closes tomorrow night the full chorus wil
sing -Home Sweet Home." The musical
portion of the proceedings was able man
aged by Professor A. J. Showaiter of
Dalton. Among the many amusements
and novelties at the fair were some pyno
techic displays by Paine, one representing
head-on collision between two freight
engines. The fair has been the most suc
cessful of its kind held for a number of
years.

VINOL'S RELIABILITY
Prominent Physicians join with Mr. New
lin in Recommending Vinol.
Countless physicians and druggists are
now prescribing and indorsing Vinol as
the most valuable cod liver oi' prepara
tion Known to medicine, and it is fast su
perceding all other forms of cod liver ci
and emulsions.
a prominent physician writes: "I am
satisfied that Vinol derives its wonderful
lite-giving and strength-creating power
from the medicinal curative elements
found in the cod's liver. It is the best
strength creator and vitaiizer for old
people, weak women, children and the
convalescent that I ever saw."
Another physician writes: "I could cite
many cases where health has been re
stored in a surprisingly short time by
Vinol. I should be very sorry to have to
do without Vinol in my practice. It has
no equal for hard colds, threat and bron
chial troubles."
Now, when we tell you that we have
never sold in our store a remedy of more
remarkable curative and sfength-creat
ing power than Vinoi, fcr tne weak, the
sick and the aged, and tnat, if it fails to
accomplish what we say it w ll, we will
refund your money w tnout question, it
shows you our faith in tne preparation
Try Vinol on our guarantee, Newlin
Druo Company.
Note While we are scie agents for
Vinol in La Grande, it is now for sals at
the leading drug store in nearly every
town and city in the country. Look for
