On Thrusday of last week a new record
was made in the apple packing business
"ben Percy Weld succeeded in reaching
the high-water mark of 1 55 boxes, and
RalfOrdway. 125 boxes. This packing
was don in the orchard of M. M. Hill,
who informed us that the work was first
class, and that the boxes were all lined
and the apples wrapped.
Thi is certainly pretty wift work and
will douot)ss stand for a record in apple

Marcelia Reed is the name of a vouno
lady who possesses rat literary attain
ments in art She has come to the O A C
for the purpose of perfecting her training
in free-hand drawing. Al along the
way from La Grand to Corvallis. she
amused herself and the passengers bv
Irawing all sorts of cartoons of the con
ductors and other passengers. She has
half a dozen good pictures of one con
ductor, recognizable as far as the eye can
see the picture.
Brother J. R. N. Bell seems to be an
other subject that she cartoons in his
most eloquent attitude but still he is Brot
her Bell. Some one said that he had the
platform appearance of Spur goon and the
facial appearance of J. R. N. Art is very
easy for Miss Reed and she will be an
inspirarion to her classes during the year.
Her home will be with Prof Lewis' family
on college hill; and if the Barometer
should sparkle with some brilliant dashes
this year, the fact need not be overlooked
that in the student body this year is Bert
Bower from the old home or Homer
Davenport and Miss Marcelia Read, the
gifted artist of La Grande. Corvallis
