The policy adopted by the railroads within the next few years will depend largely whether or not this country will try government ownership. Tnere will be a change in the management of these great ' common carriers and the public mind is developing rapidly along these lines. There is a large independent vote that is criti cally watching the trend of the times and the Interstate Commerce Commission and the federal courts bring about radical changes in the present day management of the railroads, Government ownership is a long ways off. If on the other hand roads thro a policy tenaciously cling to present methods and refuse to adjust inequalities and descrimination, Government owner ship will be crowded upon us, sooner per haps than we are ready for it. Beautiful j New Carpets and Rugs j It seems very much as the Senator Bailey, once the idol of Texas, has been tainted by Stand rd Oil, Japan is reported to have announced its decision to hold in the near future an international exhibition. There have also been reports of a proposed fair at Bar celona, Spain. The Jamestown Exhioi- tion of 1 907 will hardly be an old story before another great fair is opened in some part of the world. Bodies of the pauper dead in the Dis trict of Columbia are not to be buried in the potter's field, but are to be cremated, for Congress has appropriated fifteen thousand dollars for building a suitable crematory. Objection to cremation is heard Ii'equently tVian it was a gen eration ago, possibly because tltx people have begun to understand that incinera tion is only a quickening of the natural process that goes on in the ground. OR , An appeal has been made by a corres pondent of a London newspaper for the raising of a fund to repa.r and preserve the cottage at Elstow. near Bedford, Ergland, in which John Bunyan began his married life. The correspondent says that the building is now in such a dilapi dated condition that it is likely to collapse at any time. If every one who has read 'Pilgrims Progress" would contribute a sum commensurate with the benefits re ceived, the old house might be made into a "cottage" as good as those at Newport. 1 . Hi i.. . Other states will undoubtedly pa--s a similar re solution before presidential nominations are made. Rooseve'.t undoubtedly thinks he has served his country sufficient and desires to retire but when the people commence to realize the possibility of loosing such a nobie and able executive they will rise in mass aad make their desire so strong that a negative answer will not be possible.
