Mr. and Mrs. Turner Oliver returned
last evening from attending the Irrigation
Congress at Boise City. They report
it a success from every standpoint. Be
ing attended by representative men from
every section of the United States. The
session will close Saturday.
Mr. A. C. Huntington who went with
the La Grande delegation writes that he
will accompany the excursion into South
ern Idaho where they will view the gov
ernment project and several large private
irrigation schemes. He expects to retnrn
Monday night
Dr. and Mrs. F. E. Moore are now visit
ing relatives in Kirks ville Missouri and
aftei a visit at Kansas City they will
return toLaGrande presumably the 25th
of this month. The doctor and Mrs. Moore
according to communication sent to friends
in this city are having a great time and
will return rested in body and mind.
C.,M. Blevens.ofCove was a La Grande
business visitor this morning. Mr. Blevens
belongs to that class of progressive far
mers who always have something to
sell when the market is right. This time
he brought a load of choice fruit and
vegetables which he says there is prac
tically no market. Mr. Blevens left a
sample of plums and after careful test
applied by every member of the Observer
it was the popular belief that it was the
market that was wrong and not the fruit.

SIMMONS BACK AGAIN
C. B. Simmons, manager of the Parr
Simmons company has returned from an
extended trip through the middle states.
While away he visited the leading cities
of Montana, North Dakota. Minnesota,
Wisconsin, Illinois. Iowa. Nebraska.
Colorado, Wyom.ng and Idaho. In a maj
ority of these states he found business
prosperous. Mr. Simmons had his eye
on the fruit markets during the trip and
reports that the market this year demands
the large crops now harvested on the
Pacific coast.

EIRST CAR WILL RUN
By Friday evening, two days before
the time set by the Salem Council, the
line of the Oregon Electric Railway Co.
will be ready for operation betweet the
Capital City and Chemawa. Two miles
of track remained to be laid Tuesday
morning, and this is being placed at the
rate of half a mile a day. Cars were
operated over the first two miles for the
purpose of testing the wires and equip
ment yesterday. The 72-pound steel, of
course, did not come in for its share of
the test, as the cars are too light.
