judging from report coming in from cities

even the Dominion of Canada the cele

ever before. Owine to the DnDraui

dustry the celebrations this year art on a
mucn larger and more pretentious scale
than ever before attempted.
Here as well as in all large and medium
.zed cities parades form ths main fea
ture of the official celebrations.
The parade in New York will be held
m the afternoon and it is expected that
there will be more than 30.000 workmen
in line. Many of 'he labor organizations
win noid picnics in various parks and re
sort after the parade. Coney Island
and other beach resorts offer special
attractions for the day and will undoubt
edly be crowded to their fullest caoaitv
Boston had a large Labor Day parade
ana scores 01 popular reasi and picnics in
tne arte moon and evening. It is estima
ted that about 35,000 men marched in
the parade. Many organizations which
have not marched for several years took
part in the parade this year. Th mem
bers of the city council were not invited
to take part, owing to some recent differ
ences between the council and the labor
organizations.
The parade in Baltimore was larger
than ever before and included thirty
bands. In the afternoon there will be

athletic games and other entertainments
and in th evening firework.
The earthquake and destructive fire
which visited San Francisco materially
interfered with the celebration of Labor
Day in that city, but the customary par
ad was not omitted this year. Some of
th more prosperous unions, like the
building trades unions, the painters
teamsters, furniture handlers, etc., con
tributed enough to make the holding of
parade possible. Los Angeles also had a
big parade and employed not only every
union band, but also every non-union band
in th city for that occasion.
In Vancouver. B, C, Lahor Day was
celebrated without a parade, but there
were picnics and other entertainments
for all.
Montreal, Toronto and Winnipeg had
large parades, and entertainments of all
kinds in honor of the day.
Thousands of workmen of Lewiston
and other cities in Main joined the work
men of Portland, Me., in their Labor Day
celebration, which surpassed every cele
bration of the day ever held there.
Th parade in Pittsburg was unusually
large and every union was represented
by a float. In Reading, Pa., no parade
was he'd, but there were popular games,
athletic aontests, band concerts, and in
th evening there will be fireworks.
An unusually grand celebration was
arranged in Birmingham, Ala,, including
a parade and picnic, which were attended
by Governor Jelks, the Mayor of the city
and other prominent officials.

PURELY VEGETABLE
The fact that S. S. S. is a purely vegetable preparation, containing; not
the slightest trace of mineral in any form, has been one of the strongest
points in its favor during its forty years of existence. It is recognized
everywhere not only as the best of all blood punuers, but the one medicine
that can be taken with absolute safety by the youngest child or the oldest
member of the family. Next in importance to removing the cause of any
disease is the condition in which the system is left after a course of medical
treatment. Medicines containing mercury, potash or other strong mineral
Ingredients often do permanent injury by eating out the delicate lining and
tissues of the stomach, producing chronic dyspepsia, unfavorably affecting
the bowels and so damaging the system that even if the original cause of
the disease has been removed, it is left in
such a dtranged and weakened condition that tl ftt DCUIaDn
the health is permanently impaired. S. S. S. KfcWAKU
enjoys the distinction of being the only blood F NOT PURELY
medicine on the market that does not contain
mineral proiwrty in some form. Being made VEGETABLE,
entirely of roots, herbs and barks it is absolutely
harmless to any part of the system, and while curing disease adds strength
and health to every part of the body. S. S. S. removes all poisons, freshens
and purines the blood and gives better and more lasting results than any
other blood medicine. S. S. S. is the very best treatment for Rheumatism,
Catarrh. Scrofula. Sores and Ulcer, Skin Diseases, Contagious Blood Poison
and all trim bits due to an impure or poisoned blood supply. Beside being
the King t blood punfirrs S. S. S is the best and most invigorating of ail
tonics. THE SWIFT SttCIFIC CO ATLANTA, OA
