GOOD PRICE IS 1XPECTED
Few or no Rogue River apples have
been sold yet by the growers, said John
D. Olwell. of Medford, yesterday, and
when the market opens they expect to
get from $2.50 to $3.00 a box for the
best fruit. The export crop tnis year
will amount to about 150 carloads, 50 per
cent of which will be' Spitienbergs and
30 per cent Newtowns. About 60 car
loads of pears have been exported this
vear. to all parts of the East.
Within two or three years Rogue Riv
er's crop of Spitzenberg and Newtown
aDoles and Bartlett and Winter pears
will be considerably increased by new

Roirue River went into apple culture,
some 15 years ago, the growers planted
a number of varieties of apples, with
out knowing the special advantage of the
Spitzenbergs and Newtowns-varieties
