side is suffering from an epidemic of fleas
that amount to a positive pest. Th fun
of it is that th "pesky critters" have at
tacked the very territory in which our
richest and most high-toned citizens dwell
and have spread themselves with all mag
nificence. Along th Riverside Drive
stretches a long line ofjsplendid residences,
in which costly and fine raiments are the
rule and sumptuous dinners a common
occuranc. while the bed's are of down,
and soft and tender to the bodies of th
slumberers. But these beds are full of
float, urn fiu is ubquiious, tutu can bile
as well on down as on sackcloth.. Th
people on the East side may be scratch
ing for a living, but the people of the
Riversids Drive are scratching for a
moments relief. It is some comfort that
our rich people are making a study of .th
habits and character of Ihe nimbi little
creatures, and by winter will be full of
knowledge besides many reminiscences of

MORE DAIRY COWS
J. R. Halley returned the last of the
week from Grande Ronde valley, brinainff
with him a fine herd of twelve full blood
Jersey cows which h purchased while
there. This is one of the best lot of dairy
cows in the Wallowa valley. Mr. Halley
has purchased a cream separator and is
disposing of the product to the Blue
Mountain Creamery Co.. of this city at
the top price paid for butter fat anywhere
