A baseball team in Walla Walla under
honest and competent managemenn would
no doubt be a success, but there would
need to be some radical changes in methods
if the season were made any more suc

people want something for their money

SNOW ON THE MOUNTAINS
Last evening after the rain which visit
ed Baker City had ceased, a light skiff of
snow could be seen on the highest peaks
of the Elkhorn range. The snow was
light and did not remain very long but it
was plainly discernable for some time.
This is the earliest date on which snow
has fallen on these mountains within the
memory of many old timers, although
snow in September is not an unusual
thing. But it was uery cold even in
Baker City and it was certainly cold
enough for snow on the mountains. Bak

LA GRANDE
The young men of Freewater, Or, are
evidently exceedingly bashful or else there
is a very poor bunch there
om which to choose. A Walla Walla
lady purchased a box of peaches in this
city yesterdsy and found the following
written on the inside:
'Write to me. Am sweet young girl,
age 16. Never been kissed.
"Freewater, Or.. R. F. D. No. 2"
We have refrained from publishing the
name for thero is no doubt hut that the
young lady expected the brx to be sei t
farther away and besides it would be un
fair to have her flooded with letters from
all the old bachelors intl e country. How
ever, in order to assist the young lady in
securing a sweetheart, the city editor of
the union has consented to act as official
censor and all communications intended
for the young lady should be sent to him.
The standing of the applicants will care
fully be investigated and the letters of
those on the elegible list will be forwarded
to the lady at FreeWater and the balance
will be published. Come early and avoid
the rush. Walla Walla Union.
ELABORATE PREPARATIONS

A tragic finish
