Geer will go to Pendleton about Sept. 1
to take editorial control of the Pendleton
. ribune. having purchased an interest in
that sheet from D. P. Dodd. Mr. Geer
said today that he had seen it stated in
the press of the state that he was trying
to break into journalism for political rea
sons. He said that nothinu was further
from his intentions; he has been a news
paper man, likes the work, believes he
will succeed at it and that he will have a
wider sphere of usefulness at the editorial
tripod than at any other business.
To make a long story short," said
Mr. Geer, "I am going to enter news
paper field to make money, just as all
other men do."
Governor and Mrs. Geer will go to

The average auditor in the theatre
pays but little attention and gives very
little thought to anything' , but what he
sees and hears on the stage before him.
Speaking of the music and musical
comedy, one rarely considers anything
beyond whether it is pleasing to the ear.
The trick of orechestration is thought
of by very few outside of those eapecially
cultivated in music, but the orchestartion
of the music in my musical performance
is a matter of the greatest impart a-.d
especially is this true in the music of
The Royal Chef." the new Shubert
production which will be seen at the
Ben Jerome, who i responsible for the
score of "The Royal Chef" is known
as one of the best musicians and
composer in America. Mr. Jerome accept
ed this compliment with modesty and is
inclined to give much credit for the
success to the care which he
orchestrates his music, for Mr. Jerome,
unlike most composers does orchestrate
his own works.
"Your ordinary composer." he declares,
pay too little attention to his
orchestrations. Harmony, of course, is
one of the essential 'point in music, but
the melodies and the couuter-melodii
arc too often overlooked. There are very
few composers in fact who pay much
attention to their counter-mel-dist
in orchestrations and several of its
numbers in "The Royal Chef," the
courjter-melodies are the sustaining

are interwoven with the material air
and the effect has been to make this
number one of the most popular in the
opera, and so it is all through the score.
