OIL FOR ROADS
Oil on the streets and roads does more
than keep the dust down in the eummer.
if it be the right kind and properly applied.
It also keeps away the mud in winter.
After being applied for two or three years
it forms a crust that is impervious to wat
er, if the roadway be on a proper grade-
in fact makes a surface of asphaltum.
The experiments in Salem this year will
no doubt result in more oil being used on
the streets and roads next year. A pub
lic snperscription could be easily secured
for the work, and the property holders
along the streets ought to contribute the
larger portion of the fund. Salem States
