tween three hundred and four hundred
prominent veterinaries from alt parts of
the United States are attending the an
nual meeting of the American Veterinary
Medical Association, which opened here
today. The association numbers more
than 1000 members, comprising prac
ticing veterinaries, government officers
and college instructors in all parts of the
country. The convention will last four
days. One entire day will be devoted to
a clinic, while on the other days valuable
scientific papers will be read and discussed
On Thursday evening a big dinner will be
given at the Tontine Hotel. "

REFUSES TO PARDON TAYLOR

Governor Chamberlain has arrived at a
decision In the matter of the petition
for the pardon of Moses Tavlor. th
wealthy rancher who was sent to the
penitentiary from Umatilla County Feb
ruary, 1 906 for 2 years for attempted
arson, and has notified Taylor by letter
that he would not extend any clemency
in his case further than what was already
being done. He is being allowed doub'e
time for working on the road gang.
' Taylor is rated at $100,000 and has
spent thousands of dollars in an effort to
secure a pardon but it is understood . the

During the first day of the week show

Rehearsals for "The Illusion of Beat
rice." the new Martha Morton Comedy in
which Maude Fealy will begin Aug. 27,

direction of Max Figman who will act
temporarily as general stage director for
all of John Cort's attractions. ' '
The company engaged to support Max
Figman next season includes Helen Holmes
Wilson Forbes, John A. Brownell, Wm,

Louise Chapman, Beatrice McClure and
